A Drowning Boy’: My Journey With Oil Painting

I am thrilled to share with you my oil painting, “A Drowning Boy”. This piece was a labor of love, taking over 3 months to complete. I choose to paint a photograph of a Spanish model posing in a bathtub, surrounded by water. There’s something by water. There’s something about capturing the beauty of water that has always fascinated me. The sound of water, the way it glistens in the light, the feeling of serenity it brings – it all resonates deeply with my inner soul.

As I began painting, I quickly realized that replicating the photograph exactly wasn’t the goal. It was about embracing the process, learning from mistakes and trusting my instincts. Oil painting can be frustrating at times, especially when waiting for layers to dry. But the ability to make changes and adjustment along the way is game-changer. It’s a reminder that art is a journey, not a destination.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned from this art piece is the importance of trusting the process. It’s easy to get caught up in the end result, to worry about whether the painting will turn out as envisioned. But the truth is, the process is just as important as the product. It’s the journey, not the destination, that truly matters.

When I am painting, I try to let go of any expectations or attachments to the outcome. I focus on the present moment, on the feel of the brush in my hand, the smell of the paint, the sound of the water. it’s a meditative process, one that allows me to tap into my inner-self and find peace.

For me, painting is not just about creating something beautiful; its about finding inner peace and tranquility. It’s about letting go of worries and fears, and simply being present in the moment. When I am painting, I feel alive, connected to something deeper and more meaningful than myself.

I’ve also learned that oil painting is a unique and forgiving medium. Its easy to blend colours, to create subtle transitions and nuances. It’s a medium that rewards patience and practice, one that allows for endless experimentation and exploration.

The title ‘’A Drowning Boy’’ reflects the model’s serene expression, with his eyes closed and ears submerged in water. It’s as if he’s escaping chaos of the world and finding solace in the calmness of the water. I am thrilled with how the shine of the water and the glazing effect on the skin turned out.

This piece has taught me to trust the process, to find peace in the present moment, and to let go of any attachments to the outcome. It’s a reminder that art is a journey, not a destination and that the true beauty lies in the process, not the product.

I hope you enjoy “A Drowning Boy” as much as I do. Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey!
